Project: Economic and Financial Analysis of the Laura Stormwater Reuse Project (2011)

Summary: The objectives of the Laura Stormwater Reuse project are to mitigate flooding in Laura (a town in the Mid North region of South Australia) and to provide stormwater as an alternative to the mains drinking water sourced from the River Murray for irrigation of town amenities. An economic analysis was undertaken to determine the net economic benefit of the project for the whole community. A financial analysis of the stormwater reuse project, from the perspective of the Northern Areas Council, was also undertaken.

FRDC Fisheries Economic Workshop

30 January - 3 February 2012: Lisa Rippin attended a FRDC funded fisheries economics workshop at the University of Tasmania in Hobart. The course focused on bioeconomic modellling of fisheries, vessel and fleet level productivity and efficiency, recreational fishing and biodiversity conservation, non-market valuation techniques and approaches to analysing fisher’s behaviour and the role of experimental economics.

Presentation on Developing the Carbon Neutral Investment Model for Local Government

December 2011: Heather Bailey (EconSearch) and Ben Heard (ThinkClimate Consulting) presented a paper entitled Developing the Carbon Neutral Investment Model for Local Government to the 35th annual conference of the Australian and New Zealand Regional Science Association International held in Canberra. This paper presented the work that EconSearch and ThinkClimate Consulting completed for the City of Onkaparinga.

RISE Modelling Presentation

2 December 2011: Imran Zawwar, a recent intern research officer with EconSearch, presented a paper on the basic method and introduction to the RISE model to policy makers, consultants, researchers, managers and students with interests in regional economics at Carnegie Mellon University, Adelaide.

Fishing for Sustainability

December 2011: Julian Morison along with Tor Hundloe, Kate Brooks and Andrew Sullivan co-authored a book titled Fishing for Sustainability, will your grandchildren have the option to eat seafood. The book, published by Bond University Press, illustrates how the integration of ecology, economics and sociology can assist commercial fishers and their government managers in preserving the seafood industry.
