Project: Social Impact Analysis for the Northern and Yorke NRM Levy (2008-2010)

Client: Northern and Yorke NRM Board

Summary: Most recently undertaken for the proposed 2011/12 levy, the analysis provides estimates of the impact of the proposed NRM levies (land and water based levies) on landholders in the Northern and Yorke region. The analysis was directed at two groups, namely irrigation farms (Clare Valley) and households. It is highly unlikely that the costs of the water based and land based levies would result in business closure in the region, even in vulnerable sectors. The levy would have minimal economic and social impact on households.

2 December 2011: Imran Zawwar, a recent intern research officer with EconSearch, presented a paper on the basic method and introduction to the RISE model to policy makers, consultants, researchers, managers and students with interests in regional economics at Carnegie Mellon University, Adelaide.

Fishing for Sustainability

December 2011: Julian Morison along with Tor Hundloe, Kate Brooks and Andrew Sullivan co-authored a book titled Fishing for Sustainability, will your grandchildren have the option to eat seafood. The book, published by Bond University Press, illustrates how the integration of ecology, economics and sociology can assist commercial fishers and their government managers in preserving the seafood industry.

RISE Presentation

23 November 2011: Julian Morison presented a paper titled A Practical Guide to Using the RISE Model for Economic Impact Analysis in the Murray Mallee LGA Region to the South Australian Regional Organisation of Councils held in Adelaide.

EconSearch to Evaluate Impacts of SA Marine Parks

July 2010: EconSearch in partnership with the Australian Institute for Social Research and Dr Hugh Kirkman and his environmental team, have been contracted by DENR - Coast and Marine to undertake a cost-benefit analysis on a state-wide basis and prepare an impact statement for each of the 19 parks proposed for South Australian state waters.
