Project: Economic Value of Irrigation in Urban Green Open Space (2008)
Client: CRC for Irrigation Futures
Summary: This paper reports on a broad range of studies providing indicators of the benefits attributable to green open space in urban areas. These include reduced air pollution costs, reduced stormwater runoff costs, aesthetic benefits, reduced obesity related costs, reduced depression related medical costs and productivity losses and the increased capital value of houses. Information is presented on two case studies representing ‘typical’ urban local government areas: Ashfield, which has a relatively low area of public open space per hectare and Mosman, which has a large area of public open space.
