EconSearch Completed Project

Project:  Kangaroo Island Watergap Recognition Project (2009)

Client: Kangaroo Island Regional Development Board

Collaborator: GHD Meyrick

Summary: The economic and social development of Kangaroo Island is constrained by the high cost of ferry services for transporting freight and passenger vehicles across the Backstairs Passage. This report explored the extent to which Kangaroo Island’s residents and businesses are disadvantaged relative to their mainland counterparts, provided recommendations for addressing the high cost of ferry services and presented estimates of the economic impact that would result from the proposed policy measures.
