Project: Review of Proposed Changes to the South Australian Kangaroo Management Program Sealed Tag Allocation System (2005)

Client: Department of Environment and Heritage

Collaborators: Warwick Yates & Associates

Summary: The Department of Environment and Heritage regulates the operation of the kangaroo industry through the allocation and distribution of harvest quotas to individual properties, the issue of permits to industry participants, and through the sale and issue of sealed tags (every carcass that enters commercial trade must have a tag attached). This report provided a review of the tag allocation system used for commercial kangaroo harvest in SA. The project involved stakeholder consultation, assessment of the impact of proposed changes and a number of recommendations for change.
