Project: Assessment of Commercial Fishing Licences in the Lake George Fishery (2000)
Client: PIRSA Fisheries
Summary: Due to the closure of Lake George to commercial and recreational fishing, the two holders of Miscellaneous Fishery Licences with access to Lake George were seeking financial compensation to voluntarily surrender their licences. This report included advice on the value of commercial fishing licences in the Lake George Fishery, a fishery that had suffered a major environmental disaster. The work entailed collecting financial and catch and effort data from licence holders and preparing a model which calculated economic rent generated by the fishery under various catch, price and cost of fishing scenarios.
