Summary: Many believe there is potential for ornamental fish industry growth in Australia. In order to identify the priority areas in which to invest in research and development, good information about the industry is required. This study into the ornamental fish industry included a survey across all sectors of the industry to estimate the size and value of the industry in Australia. The objective of the study was to determine an estimate of the overall structure, size and value of the industry and of industry activities and identify potential areas for growth. Including fish collectors, breeders, wholesale operations, retail outlets and the hobby market, the industry was valued at $300 million in 2006/07.
