EconSearch Completed Project

Project: An Economic Evaluation of the Impact of the Draft Aquaculture Zone Policy for the Arno Bay Region on the Spencer Gulf Prawn Fishery (2004)

Client: Spencer Gulf & West Coast Prawn Fishermen’s Association

Summary: The draft Aquaculture Zone Policy for the Arno Bay Region resulted in a combined area of 9,000 ha (Inner Zone plus Outer Zone) in Arno Bay being excluded from Spencer Gulf prawn fishing grounds. EconSearch were engaged by the SG&WC Prawn Fishermen’s Association to demonstrate the impact the zone would have on the Spencer Gulf prawn fishery. The net cost to the fishery of the proposed aquaculture zone was analysed and calculated in terms of the present value of reduced future earnings for the fishery.
