EconSearch Completed Project

Project: Economic Evaluation of At-sea Post-harvest Handling Procedures for the SA Sardine Fishery (2006)

Client: South Australian Research & Development Institute (SARDI)

Summary: A cost-benefit analysis was undertaken of various options including investment in small scale (processing 50 to 100 t/an) and large scale (processing 200 to 400 t/an) equipment for improved post-harvest handling and processing of SA pilchards for the human consumption market. The results of the analysis showed that investment in post harvest handling equipment could generate positive returns to the fishery.

Report: Published as Chapter 5 in a SARDI report to Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, ‘Optimising at-sea post-harvest handling procedures for the Australian Sardine’.
