EconSearch Completed Project
Project: Social, Economic and Environmental Values and Indicators for the Lower Murray Region (2003)
Client: Murray-Darling Basin Commission
Collaborators: Australian Water Environments and Vanessa Edmonds, Archaeological Consulting Services Pty Ltd
Summary: The first report prepared for this project identifies and quantifies key economic, social and environmental activities and values that are dependent upon the water resources of the River Murray in the region below Lock 1, including the Coorong. The second project report, details the structure of the decision support system (DSS), documents the models used to estimate responses in economic, social and environmental indicators to changes in river management, and presents the results from the application of the DSS to three river management scenarios. Where possible, the relationships between the water resource and key activities and values have been quantified in order to identify suitable indicators to assess changes in the management regime of the water resource.
