Summary: This study was undertaken to investigate and recommend an appropriate water-based levy for the McLaren Vale Prescribed Wells Area Water Allocation Plan. The process involved taking into account the costs and benefits to groundwater licensees of using groundwater, the costs and availability of alternative water resources, the costs of managing the groundwater resource by the Board and the Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation and the social, economic and environmental costs and benefits of the water based levy, particularly how it may impact on small to medium agricultural businesses and their employment of staff.
