EconSearch Completed Project
Project: Cost Benefit Analysis of Funding Options for the Pig Monitoring Program (2005)
Client: Australian Pork Limited
Collaborator: Warwick Yates & Associates
Summary: The Pig Monitoring Program (PMP), undertaken by the National Residue Survey, aimed to meet the Australian Standard for Hygienic Production of Meat and Meat products for Human Consumption, meet the requirements for market access in key markets, and establish a bank of objective and scientifically valid information to underpin QA programs. Since 1993 the Pig Monitoring Residue Program has been funded by an 8.5 cent pig slaughter levy, a designated component of the $2.435 per carcase slaughter levy collected under the Primary Industry (Excise) Levies Act 1999. A range of options for running the program were developed by APL and EconSearch was engaged to undertake a cost benefit analysis of the options.
