EconSearch Completed Project

Project:  2020 Vision for the Australian Beef Industry: Economic Impact of Feedlots and the Feedlot Industry (2008)

Client: Meat & Livestock Australia

Collaborators: Warwick Yates & Associates, Feedlot Services Australia

Summary: The goal of the study was to provide clear, sensible indications of the economic impacts of the development of feedlots of various sizes on a local, regional, state and national economy. The study examined three model feedlots of 5,000 (small), 15,000 (medium) and 30,000 (large) SCU capacities, modelled to represent the characteristics of typical feedlot developments in Australia. Estimates of the economic impact are made of both the establishment and the on-going operation of the model feedlots.
